Description
The Guppyfriend Washing Bag gives you a convenient way to prevent microfiber pollution when you wash your clothes.
You care about keeping plastic out of the environment — and it shows in the little things you do each day. But did you know that up to 9 million synthetic microfibers may be escaping unnoticed from every load of laundry? When you wash synthetic fabrics, tiny fibers break off and slip through filters in your machine and water treatment plants. Once microfibers enter our rivers and ocean, they create a serious threat to marine life and human health.
The Guppyfriend bag is a simple, intuitive method to stop microfiber pollution in its tracks. This microfiber-catching laundry bag captures tiny fibers before they leave your washer. Then you can easily remove them and dispose of them safely in the rubbish bin.
And since the Guppyfriend bag protects fabric and reduces friction, it lowers shedding and breakage at the source. Not only does this further cut down on pollution, it also helps your clothing last longer. With the Guppyfriend, you can wash your favorite clothes with peace of mind, knowing you’re doing something positive to protect our ocean and our planet.
How To Use
- Place clothing in your Guppyfriend washing bag
- Close the bag and place it in the washing machine
- After washing, remove clothing items from your bag and put them in the dryer or air dry
- Remove any visible microfibers and dispose of them in the trash
- Wash on cold when possible to reduce microfiber shedding
- Lower spin cycle speed to protect clothing and prevent machine imbalances
- Choose shorter spin cycles to lower fiber breakage
- Add another filled Guppyfriend bag or other non-synthetic clothes to help balance your washing machine
- Air dry clothing when possible to reduce wear on your clothing
- Do not put your Guppyfriend bag in the dryer
- Hang your bag to dry between uses

Impact
Scientists estimate that textiles create up to 35% of plastic microfibers entering the ocean today. These microfibers harm water health and marine life, then work their way up the food chain where they’re consumed by people. The Guppyfriend bag captures 90-100% of microfiber particles from your clothing. And it also lowers shedding by an average of 79% for partly synthetic fabrics and 86% for fully synthetic fabrics. This keeps harmful microfibers out of our waterways and extends the useful life of your clothing. That way, our ocean stays cleaner and you can reduce your impact on the environment.
More About Microfibers
Microfibers are in the same family of pollution as microplastics (particles of plastic that are smaller than 5mm in length). Much of our clothing is made with synthetic fibers. When we wash synthetic fabrics, these fibers break free and escape into wastewater streams. Filtration systems fail to catch most of these microfibers. Unfortunately, this allows microfiber pollution to ultimately end up in our water systems where it causes problems for wildlife.
